do you have pictures of yourself, with your little people?
in this day and age of the "momarazzi", many of us are always behind the lens...rather in front of it.
some of you feel much more comfy behind the lens, and i get that.
look, you think i want pictures of myself in the same velour jogging suit for the 3rd day in a row {i slept in that jogging suit each night too---i know, gross, right?}
well, i don't really want those pictures...but my kids do---or, at least they will one day.
how many of you LOVE looking at pictures of your parents, when they were young{er}?
i'm raising my hand!
sadly, i don't have a lot of pictures with me and my mom from when i was younger.
i am off to change this for my kids.
i want them to have an abundance of pictures...to remind them of these days that we spent at home together.
the days may seem to drag...but honestly, the years fly.
is my son really about to graduate...from kindergarten?
wasn't it yesterday that i was wiping his diapered bottom? and now i am wiping his pee up from all around the toilet. embrace the pee.
and embrace the camera.
all next week (monday thru friday) i am going to take a picture of me with my kids. maybe with 1 kid...maybe all of them. more than likely with whomever wants to cooperate.
will you join me?
we will call it the {embrace the camera} challenge.
get out your self-timer camera.
give your $1,000 camera to your 3 year old {yikes!} to capture the shot.
hit the button and run and jump into the photo.
hold the camera out in front of you and your munchkin.
take a shot in the mirror.
whatever you need to do, to capture yourself with the little people.
if you are thinking "no thanks...i don't want my crusty self in the photograph, thankyouverymuch" then you are going to get a swift kick in the shins for that. {and trust my bruised shins...that hurts}
do you honestly look at a picture of your mom from back in the day and think "man, she was {insert your horrible adjective that you use to describe yourself}"
no.
we don't think that.
and neither do your kids!
so, pick up the camera and get shooting.
link up everyday {in the comment section} so i can see who is participating!
and just so you know, even if you don't have little people, you can still embrace this challenge!
who doesn't need a little help getting comfy in front of the camera?
get out there with yo' crusty self and smile!
see ya monday!

Can I tell you how much I enjoy your blog..I do enjoy it so much. I am so very with you on this post!
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly what I needed! Hubby is deployed so there literally is no one else to take pictures of me and the littles. There are about 3,000 pictures of them each week though.
ReplyDeleteAny recommendations for a timer?
I think I can be up for the challenge. Now only if I can remember between now and Monday.
ReplyDeleteI accept!
ReplyDeletelove this! what a great idea :-) I was JUST saying that I have majorly been slacking in taking any pics of my own kids, let alone pics with me in them!
ReplyDeleteJust shared with my peeps...
ReplyDeletehttp://buggieandjellybean.blogspot.com/2010/05/up-for-challenge.html
Hey! Came over via Buggie and Jellybean. I am totally guilty of having maybe 10 photos of the kiddo and I together in the 2 years she's been around. I HATE to be in photos, but you're right. She'd probably like to have some later on in life.
ReplyDeletesounds fun!!!
ReplyDeletei'm in. my kids will love the idea of getting their grubby little hands on my camera. now to figure out how to get them to take turns... and not break the camera at the same time. hmmmmmmm....
ReplyDeletelove you,
jenn
I'm in (and I don't want to, but like you said- my kids will love it).
ReplyDeleteMy husband is in most of the pictures! Now when I have the girls pictures professionally taken I make sure a few include me.
ReplyDeleteMy mom passed away when i was 11 and there are honestly about 10 pictures of her and I when i was little. It's so sad. So that's why i am always so determined to take more pictures in general and more with me and my babe. My birthday was the week before and there is ZERO photo footage of it....sad. Not going to happen to my kids!!
ReplyDeleteI whole-heartedly agree! My first thought was: "Okay. . .Let me see. What am I doing next week where I will be dressed to be in public. Or, do we have anything fun going on?" I'm always in favor of helping moms get in front of that camera! Otherwise, when we look back, our kids WILL wonder, "Where was Mom? She must have loved me 'cus she took all these picture of us; but where is she?" I'll take the challenge!
ReplyDeleteIsn't this the truth! I look through pics and wonder if my kids will even know I existed or if I was just an imaginary mama! Great Idea Emily!
ReplyDeleteHi emily!
ReplyDeleteI have just popped over from buggie and jellybean and I am up for the challenge! I must admit I am one to be behind the lens all the time capturing our moments.... but they are not really our moments without a few of mum in them. So this week I am going to create some mum memories.
take care, H x
I love this idea! Now i need to remember to do it!
ReplyDeleteJust found you on my friend Amy's blog. What an inspiring post. I am officially going to allow my hubby to photograph me with the kiddos in that worn 3 days in a row jogging suit. (Yes, I have one too.) :)
ReplyDeleteI may just consider this challenge! I agree with you that the kiddos (and even us too) will probably appreciate it in the future!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! And I love seeing pictures of my mom 'back in the day'! I hope my kids will enjoy laughing at picture of me when they get older too!!
ReplyDeleteDay One: http://withjoycarey.blogspot.com/2010/05/breaking-bad-habit.html

ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I was just thinking the other day that my son is going to look at pictures of him as a child and wonder if I was present during anything!
ReplyDeleteyou superstar. what a great challenge.
ReplyDeletewhen you become famous, you must tell everyone that you learned everything from me. even though it's not true.
Day Three:http://withjoycarey.blogspot.com/2010/05/day-three-mommy-and-me.html

ReplyDeleteGREAT challenge.. I will do it
ReplyDeleteadding this button. love the idea.
ReplyDeletewell well well.... I am a few months behind. (I will try my best to catch up) No photos of me.... for that very reason you stated. (who on earth wants to see my mug in 10 years from now) well you are right my kids will. Thanks for the kick in the ol' shins.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea... I love seeing pictures of me and my parents when I was young. I love your blog.:)
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea! Great moment to bond a little bit too! :)
ReplyDeleteJust Better Together
I think I want to try this. You're right, I'm always behind the camera and not in the shot.
ReplyDeleteI am so IN!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea…I have very few photos of myself and my parents as well.
ReplyDeleteRock on.
I'm in!! My first embrace will be this thursday...see ya there!
ReplyDeleteEmily, so right you are!!! Oh, it's so great to have people like you to get my 'stuff' together! I love looking at pics of me with my parents when I was younger and my mom is in VERY few! So, velour me and all, I'm going to Embrace The Camera every chance I get!!! Thanks again for putting it into perspective! :)
ReplyDeleteI have just posted a photo with my son, and made the decision of doing that more often, just because of a Super Nanny episode about a widower and his 3 little boys, that were missing mom very very much. At the show, they were able to put together an album kind of "Mom and me" for each child, their own very special album with Mommy.
ReplyDeleteI am not planning on dying, but who knows...but if that happens today, my son would be left with just a few photos that would not bring all the memories that I want him to have.
I missed this week challenge, but I hope that this revolution continues, so we can all be in front of the camera, with our imperfections, but with so much joy and love in our eyes, then one day in a distant future, our children will be able to look at these little bite pieces of frozen life and know what love is all about.
Emily:
