made with love: DIY cake/dessert stand

this weeks easy peasy DIY project is a cake/dessert stand.
you may remember my post last year, about my love of cake stands...i received the red bird plate for christmas (from mr. anderson---way to go, dude) and that started my love affair with cake plates and dessert stands.

so, gather your supplies:
plate (mine was found at goodwill for a whole .99)
candlestick holder (again, found at goodwill for .39)
glue (super glue or gorilla glue works best)
i spray painted my candlestick holder first...

after it's dry, i gorilla glued the candlestick holder to the plate.
i placed  a heavy book (not shown in this picture) on top of the candlestick holder to hold it in place.
depending on your glue, let it dry for approximately 24 hours.
and voila!
another super easy and super inexpensive gift you have for the holidays!
or, if you're like me and have an obsession with these bad boys, you can keep it for yourself.
here's a small glimpse at just a few of my cake plates/dessert stands and where i store them:
i have quite a few more...
plates and candlestick holders are some of the things i'm always on the hunt for...at garage sales, thrift stores, etc.

have fun...and happy gift making!

  1. sooooo cute....these are fun gifts to give. just make sure you use gorilla glue...not super glue...nothing else works.

  4. fun and easy....can't go wrong with that. I love a good diy that makes use of glue and not sewing skillz of which I have none!

  8. I don't know why, but I've had the hardest time finding candle sticks! I've been wanting to do one of these forever. I think I'll hit that thrift store on Orange this week.

  16. So, I'm wondering if you can do a tiered stand with the same concept, or would it not hold together?
