texas state fair, classyville.

we spent sunday at the texas state fair.
news flash: fairs suck.
double news flash:  fairs especially suck when you walk away with a bad case of food poisoning.

yes, food poisoning.  i swear kohen and i both got sick off of some chicken we ate there (shudder--i can't even type the word chicken without barfing a little).
i mean of all things---i wish we could have gone out eating some deep fried cookie dough, or twinkies, but chicken?  for reals?

oh and p.s. it was also freezing cold (below 50 degrees---remember we are from florida).
this made for an even more amazing day as we looked at cars, cows and gross interesting people.

2 out of 5 are smiling--i consider that a win.

  2. Oh my word!!! The state fair is my favorite! Try again next year, and get the fried frito pie instead of chicken ; )

  4. So first, sorry about the food poisoning. Second, not sorry at all about the rest of it because this snarky post and that picture with Kohen in the middle just made me laugh so hard. Today was a dud and I needed that. Your wit and your realness keep me coming back for more.

  5. I'm so sorry your first Texas State Fair experience was bad! I always look forward to it all year long! But it's probably mostly because I've gone all my life & it's so familiar. I never get adventurous with the food, though. I just stick with what I always eat.

  9. Oh no! I guess the puking really did makes its way to you, you poor thing! I agree completly with state fairs. In our minds they are a great idea of quality time spent with your family; however in reality they are just great for "people watching" if you know what I mean!

  10. I'm 23 and I still think fairs are awesome - I still wanna ride the rides. Haha! So sorry you're experience at the Texas state fair was lame though. I guess when the food stinks (the whole reason for the fair, really), then the whole experience stinks.

  11. Nodding my head and it's about to pop off because I couldn't agree with you more. I loathe going to the state fair. They moved it to my parents town a couple years ago so it's almost like I am forced to go. Puke. At least you get to wear jackets. Ours you can't even pound enough lemonade to reduce the amount of sweat pouring from your body. All those poopy pigs and cows too. Yuck-o! Sorry you had to endure, with 5 kids to boot. Bet you won't be going again!

  12. Totally agree with you that fairs suck (no offense to the people who love them). Just went to our county fair a few weeks ago and was saying the whole time, "why did we come here again?" Hope the food poisoning is over!

  13. oh no! yuck to food poisoning. The worst. :(

We live in the cold midwest so I am laughing a little at the sight of your little people bundled to the gills for under 50-degree weather. ;) If it hits the upper 40s here, people are stripping off the jackets! But I'm sure it's a big change from Florida.

I agree fairs are iffy on the fun factor. Sometimes good, sometimes blah. But probably a good cultural experience for the kids!

  15. NO! Don't give up....here's the trick...go on Texas/OU weekend. Get there at 10 when it opens, and pretty much the entire world filters into the Cotton Bowl, leaving the whole fair to a handful of people. Leave when there's about 3 minutes left of the game, and you have yourself an amazing 4 hours of no crowds! And...don't eat the ch!cke^....go for a Fletcher's and a fried Snickers!

  16. Ugh...I know...I've lived here 14 years...been to the fair TWICE. You are a brave amazing person for going with your kids. I'm scared of going with two. Shudder...
Hope you guys are feeling better!!

  18. ahahahaha!
well, this happens to answer a lot of my questions!
my folks live near denton and we've wondered before, while visiting, if it's actually worth visiting the state fair.
    thanks for your honest opinion...
you've saved us a bad experience!
    ha!
so, i guess we'll consider it known that the state fair sucks donkey balls.
but we have visited fair park before to visit the aquarium and that was nice.
haven't riden the ferris wheel yet.
    is it worth it?
just looking how high it is makes me want to throw up too... although bad chicken sorta freaks me out, as well.
    ;)
    thanks doll!

  19. Well, I got here in a roundabout way...I read a blog that referenced "embrace the camera" and (because I should be cleaning something) I decided to check it out. :) Then I scrolled and read and saw a picture of someone I thought I recognized...Casey Wiegand. She used to teach at my son's school. And then it struck me that you said,"...same town." What a funny, small world it is. The first blog I was looking at belongs to someone that lives in Florida. haha Little connections. Then, because I am now way beyond procrastinating, I read some of Casey's blog (She has had three children since I last saw her! Oh my!), and there was the fair post. Then I read your fair post. And then I couldn't help but comment. :) We went to the fair the first year we lived here (Dallas), and the kids thought it was great, and I thought it was so dirty, and we haven't been back since! So, I think you were very brave to begin with, to go even, and I am so sorry that you got sick too! That is just all kinds of UNfair (haha...that's funny). You have a great blog, and I just wanted to say hi. In short story form, apparently. :) Have a great weekend.

  20. Sorry the fair didn't agree with you - I live in Dallas and we take the family to the fair every year. It's kind of a huge tradition for us. And I worked in the Hall of State 3 times this year at the Girl Scout exhibit (I hope you made it in there - 100 years of history is pretty cool!).
